| Ponta Morrungulo is situated about 12 km South of the famous Sylvia Shoal. Sylvia Shoal is a 14km long largely un-explored reef system. The average depth on top of the reef is about 10 Metres and it drops off to about 22 Metres on the sides. Since we started diving there in July 2009, we have had multiple sightings of whale sharks and manta rays, as well as a few white tip reef sharks. The coral reef itself is teeming with fishlife, and offers the opportunity to go snorkeling as well as diving. We intend offering regular snorkeling trips to the reef as well as diving charters. We are still finding new reefs at Morrungulo and have been using new sonar to look out for structure on the ocean floor. In the first week of June we discovered a spectacular dive site 1 km east of the New Years reef system. This site offers max depths of 32 metres and features a 300 metre long rocky faultline. The site was characterised by massive green coral tress and many many reef fish. Patrolling on the outside of the shoals of reef fish were many large game fish. We have named the site 'Sherwood's Bookshelf'.
Due to the relative remoteness of Ponta Morungulo, most of the reefs have not been dived extensively at all. They are pristine and un-touched. Unlike the reefs further south which have been subject to intense fishing pressure over the years, Morrungulo and Sylvia have been largely spared.
Other highlights of diving at Morrungulo include the opportunity to go whale-watching in the whale season - June through October. The humpbacks are abundant and can be seen regularly breaching off shore. As we discover more dive sites, we will expand this page with specifics of each site, depths and what you can hope to see there - until then, many more exploration dives are planned !
